The brief was to work with the county engineers to produce guidance on sustainable drainage systems for new development in the county. The guidance sets the scene by covering topography, rainfall, geology the historic environment landscape and townscape character and nature conservation. It puts forward design principles and examples of designing with SuDS, before going through the approval and adoption processes.
The examples include Essex Design Guide layouts, with housing at various densities and illustrate how various SuDS features can be incorporated into development. The guidance has been well received by CIRIA.
